Welkom bij de PRIDE PHOTO TENTOONSTELLING 2022. Hier zie je, naast de winnende foto’s van onze wedstrijd van 2022, een selectie van ingezonden foto’s die door onze curator zijn geselecteerd.
De beelden bieden een blik op levens en werelden die voor sommigen wellicht vertrouwd zijn, en voor anderen nieuw, misschien verrassend of zelfs een beetje ongemakkelijk. Met deze foto’s willen wij bezoekers stimuleren om op een laagdrempelige en respectvolle manier na te denken over seksuele en gender diversiteit. Uiteindelijk hopen we een dialoog op gang te brengen over vooroordelen, en de vaak benarde mensenrechtensituatie waar de LHBTQIA+ gemeenschap wereldwijd mee te maken heeft.

MOTIVATIE CURATOREN –
CELEBRATING THE UNSEEN
Tientallen jaren van emancipatie hebben de positie van witte, cisgender lesbiennes en homo’s in veel westerse landen aanzienlijk verbeterd. Maar hoe zit het met andere leden van de LHBTQIA+-gemeenschap? Vandaar de keuze voor het thema van dit jaar, ‘CELEBRATING THE UNSEEN’.
Er kwamen meer dan 2500 inzendingen binnen uit vele gebieden over de gehele wereld, waaronder vele ongeziene verhalen. Tegelijkertijd zagen we ook de bind spots van ons eigen bereik, want juist uit de landen die meer ‘UNSEEN’ zijn kregen we weinig werk. Hoe kan dat?
De curatoren PRIDE PHOTO 2022 zijn Simomo Boujarra en Jan Hoek. “We vonden het bij de selectie belangrijk om ook te selecteren op datgene wat je moeilijk op de foto kunt zien: is de maker onderdeel van de community die in beeld gebracht wordt? is de maker onderdeel van de gerepresenteerde community? Hoeveel ‘ownership’ hebben de modellen? Wordt er ethisch te werk gegaan? Naar wie gaat de opbrengst?”
“Naast het vele prachtige werk uit de inzendingen zijn er nog drie extra fotografen toegevoegd uit Ghana, uit Palestina en een serie van een activist uit eigen land, die vanuit een gemarginaliseerde positie is opgeklommen tot een succesvol rolmodel.”
“We zullen nooit een compleet overzicht kunnen geven van alles wat ‘UNSEEN’ is, maar proberen je daarom aan te moedigen ook na te denken over de verhalen die je hier niet ziet. En tegelijkertijd hopen we natuurlijk ook je wereld te verbreden met de prachtige, soms hartverscheurende en soms hoopgevende ongeziene verhalen die wel te zien zijn.”
BEZOEKERS INFORMATIE
De openluchttentoonstellingen zijn overal en altijd gratis te bezoeken. De tentoonstellingen bestaan uit 20 panelen, elk met een korte beschrijving en een QR-code die u kunt scannen met de camera van uw telefoon. Deze brengt u naar onze website met informatie en audioclips. Daar kunt u meer lezen en horen over de foto’s en de onderwerpen die ze behandelen.
PRIDE PHOTO EXHIBITION 2022
Welcome to the Pride Photo Exhibition 2022. Here we show a selection of submitted photos selected by our curator, in addition to the winning photos of the 2022 competition.
The images offer a glimpse into lives and worlds that may be familiar to some people, and new to others, perhaps even surprising or a little uncomfortable. With these pictures, we encourage visitors to think about sexual and gender diversity in a low threshold and respectful way. Ultimately, we hope to start a dialogue about prejudice and the often plighted human rights situation that the LGBTQIA+ community faces worldwide.

CURATORS’ CONSIDERATIONS –
CELEBRATING THE UNSEEN
Decades of emancipation have significantly improved the position of white, cisgender lesbians and gays in many Western countries. But what about other members of the LGBTQIA+ community? Hence the choice of this year’s theme, ”CELEBRATING THE UNSEEN”.
The curators of PRIDE PHOTO 2022 are Simomo Boujarra and Jan Hoek.”We received more than 2,500 entries from many areas around the world, including many UNSEEN stories. At the same time, we also saw the

VISITORS INFORMATION
The open-air exhibitions are free to visit anywhere and at any time. The exhibitions consist of 20 panels, each with a short description and a QR code that you can scan with your phone’s camera. This takes you to our website with information and audio clips. There you can read and hear more about the pictures and their topics.
PRIDE PHOTO EXHIBITION 2022 MODIFIED
With its visual stories about sexual and gender diversity, Pride Photo encourages a dialogue about sexual and gender liberty. As an organization, we stand for stretching the norm and discussing taboos. Artistic freedom and the search for connection, are important pillars in this for us.
This year Pride Photo had to deal with extreme vandalism. In this, the conversation increasingly turned to the question of whether or not nudity belongs in public space. The commotion and turmoil generated by this question distracts from our main motive: stimulating curiosity about sexual and gender diversity.
Therefore, in consultation with the photographers, Pride Photo has decided to adjust the 2022 exhibition by replacing some of the images that caused too much distraction with other images from the same projects of the same photographers. With this we hope that Pride Photo can once again do what it exists to do: stimulate and challenge people to think about sexual and gender diversity and to have an open and constructive conversation about it.
