Welcome to the PRIDE PHOTO EXHIBITION 2024, organised by the PRIDE PHOTO Foundation. We are a Dutch organisation striving to increase the acceptance of sexual and gender diversity in the society.
For the 2024 contest, the Pride Photo Foundation received over 9,193 entries from around the world in response to its international open call. The jury, consisting of Mohamad Abdouni, Diego Moreno, Emma Waslander, Déborah Claire and Alejandra Ortiz, selected 2 winners.
INVISIBLE by Alexis won the Pride Photo Award 2024 in the Single Image category. Australian photographer Julie Sundberg was named winner in the Series category with her series I REMEMBER EVERYTHING.
This year’s exhibition acts as a visual love letter to queer resilience. A collection of images that provide a glimpse into the unique and beautiful worlds of queer lives, bodies, identities, and stories, from around the world. In creating this exhibition, author, activist and curator Alejandra Ortiz, used the opportunity to explore her own understanding of what it means to be queer.
‘Queer is everything that deviates from the rigid binary standards of today’s society,’ writes Ortiz. The collection of powerful and complex photo-series’ and striking single images creates a multifaceted representation of a vastly diverse community. This exhibition celebrates love, and the importance of being true to oneself, and sheds light on the many challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community in the protection of their basic human rights globally, with images from countries like Australia, Chile, South Africa, and Canada.
