A proud 2021!

News and Editorial

It doesn’t happen very often that people are looking forward to the new year so hopefully. And that the traditional wishes of happiness and health were as heartfelt and welcome as they are now, at the end of 2020. But this is all completely understandable. Due to Corona, we have had an incredibly difficult year, in which the world was put to the test in almost every aspect.

Also Pride Photo faced challenges as a result of the pandemic. Unfortunately, several exhibitions and activities had to be cancelled this spring. But thanks to the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, and a lot of creativity, Pride Photo was also able to take several important steps. In July, with the launch of this new website, we also introduced our new visual identity. And we were present with hundreds of posters at the Prinsengracht during the Amsterdam Pride week. With our ST!LL PROUD action, our beautiful photos ensured that, on the day of the cancelled Canal Pride, the story of tolerance and diversity was spread along the canal.

This summer, preparations for the Pride Photo Award 2020 also took place. Out of more than 2500 entries, from 40 different countries, the jury unanimously declared the photo ‘Nichelle’, by the young American photographer Kennedi Carter, as the winner. Unfortunately, this and many other awarded photos have not yet been shown yet, because the Pride Photo 2020 exhibition in November had to be canceled to stop a new spread of the virus.

We are proud of the winning photos, which we believe contribute to the acceptance of LGBTIQ+ people. Therefore, we decided to move the photo exhibition to coming spring. At this very moment we are making plans to organize a safe and remarkable exhibition in the open air. As soon as the dates and details are known, we will inform you via this website, email newsletters and social media.

For now, we wish you very good and happy holidays, and above all a safe, healthy and proud 2021!
